Work carried out of time

Work to preserve the abbey has been carried out by successive owners with the help of the Association of the Friends of the Abbaye de Villelongue.

The following restorations were completed between 1970 and 1998 :

• the tiling of the roof of the remaining wing of the cloister, the four chapels and the lateral doors of the abbey church (abbatiale)
• the restoration of the monks refectory
• the drainage of the interior and exterior of the monument
• the installation of stained glass windows in the chapter house (salle capitulaire)
• the restoration of murals in the sacristy
• the restoration of the converts cellarium
  

 

Work in progress

From 2003 to 2006 three sections of work have resulted in the consolidation of the stonework of the abbey church and the waterproofing of the vaulted remains of the choir. The fourth and the last installment of our restoration commenced on January 5, 2009 and is expected to be completed by March/April of 2009.

Total of the 4 sections of work : 286.604 € (incl.VAT)

• 50% state funding
• 10% from the Languedoc-Roussillon Region
• 20% from the General Council of the Aude (Conseil Général de l’Aude)
• 20% contributed by the S.C.I. l’Abbaye de Villelongue

 

The first two installments of renovation, which consisted of the reinforcement of the roof of the scriptorium, and the reinforcement of the dovecot’s masonry, were completed in January 2008 and December 2008 respectively.

Total of the 4 sections of work : 120.155,10 €

Total of the 1st section of work : 36.709,81 €

Financial aid received :

• 50% state funding
• 20% contributed by the S.C.I. l’Abbaye de Villelongue
• 10% from the Languedoc-Roussillon Region
• 20% from the General Council of the Aude (Conseil Général de l’Aude)
